New OfficeDrop Pricing Plans Coming Soon

OfficeDrop is Updating Our Pricing Plans

I am pleased to announce that OfficeDrop will soon be releasing new pricing plans. But first, I have a message for existing customers:

Existing Paying OfficeDrop Customers Will NOT be affected by the NEW pricing

If you are an existing paying customer the monthly price you pay will not change. You will continue to receive the same set of services you have come to expect and your plan will remain the same. You can choose to switch to one of the new pricing plans, if you wish to take advantage of our new multi-user features, but the choice is yours. Stay with your current plan or pick a new one at anytime.

Users in Our 60-Day Free Trial Period Will Have Additional Pricing Options

New users who have already signed up for our 60-day free trial will have the option at any point during their trial to upgrade to one of the plans that were available when they signed up, OR they can choose one of the new plans. Again, the choice is yours. Upgrade options that were available to you when you signed up will continue to be available. You also have new plan choices.

Information on the New Pricing Plans

The new pricing plans take advantage of new features we will be releasing in the coming weeks. In particular, we will be launching multi-user accounts. This has been a highly requested feature and we are excited to add this capability to our service. With a multi-user account, a single OfficeDrop account can be used by multiple users, each with their own login. You can also define groups of users, set permissions on folders and documents & customize the OfficeDrop interface with your own logo. Multi-user functionality has been highly requested, and we think it will help our customers share data with their accountants, assistants, co-workers, and others. Other new features available with the new plans include increased storage, counting storage as GB (vs. the page count), and easier ordering of on-demand/one-off scanvelopes.

You will also see that we have a new line of self-scanning plans. These plans will take advantage of our simple to use ScanDrop scanning software, and allow offices to manage and share paper and digital files with our award winning online document management/digital filing system.

New customers will see different pricing plans very shortly. We believe that these new prices will better reflect the improvements to the service that we have made and are making, such as integrations with Google Docs, Our ScanDrop scanning software, more functionality in linking OfficeDrop accounts to Evernote, improved search, more storage, etc.

To preview our new pricing plans, please click here.

We are also working on a new pricing FAQ page, which I will link to as soon as it is ready.

Again, I would like to make it clear that we are NOT changing the prices that current users pay nor the plan they are on nor level of services that they receive. And users currently evaluating our service who are in our 60-day free trial period will be able to upgrade to one of the new pricing plans OR one of the plans they saw when they signed up (i.e. the “old” plans.)

Pixily is now OfficeDrop!

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

We are excited to announce that Pixily has changed its name to OfficeDrop! We hope that this new name will be easier to remember and help customers more quickly understand our services.

What won’t change

For our customers the name change means little more than easier spelling and some snazzy new logos. We are in no way changing management – and our employees, procedures and security protocols will remain completely unaltered. This includes our hand-picked scanning team and friendly customer service reps.

You should not experience any change in service. If you visit Pixily.com you will be redirected to officedrop.com. All of our features should continue to work as they have in the past. The best way to email documents into your Pixily account is now [username]@myofficedrop.com, but your [username]@pixilymail.com will continue to accept emailed documents as well.

You may wish to authorize “officedrop.com” in your email system’s spam filter. Please contact customer service if you encounter any issues with our service. You can reach us by phone at 888-674-6493, over email at support@officedrop.com of via the “chat with us” feature on our website.

Why the change?

We decided to change the company name both to increase recall (OfficeDrop is a lot easier to spell), and to create a label that more explicitly reflects the service we provide. We love name Pixily and everything it stands for, but we found that customers – even active users – had real issues spelling and remembering the word “Pixily.” We’ll continue to wear our Pixily t-shirts with pride, but are excited about our new name!

Why OfficeDrop?

We picked the name OfficeDrop after a long search for a new name. We feel that it succinctly describes what we do: making it easy to organize the paper and digital files of small businesses and home offices. Actually, a better way to say it is that we believe OfficeDrop describes what OUR CUSTOMERS have told us that we do for them.

In a blog post tomorrow we’ll go over the process we used to find a new name – it involved the entire company brainstorming, lots of customer and advisor feedback and a healthy dose of soul searching.

Thank You

We owe a really big thank you to all of our customers who helped us during this process. So many of you spoke with us and took our naming survey. We really appreciated your responses and were impressed with the thought that many of your put into the survey! We also heard those of you who said that you really liked the name Pixily. We do too, but we hope that we’ll be able to convince you that OfficeDrop is just as great of an organization!

We hope you approve of the new name, and we look forward to serving you as OfficeDrop.

Sincerely,

Prasad Thammineni
CEO and co-founder

Pixily Moves to Cambridge

Monday, February 8th, 2010

We are pleased to announce that the OfficeDrop office has moved from our Waltham headquarters to an office in Cambridge. The new space will provide us with a lot more room to grow, as well as more space to store and process your documents. We are also excited to be closer to Boston, and closer to talented folks who can aid us with our growth and development.

The security and privacy of your documents is always foremost in our thoughts, and we assure you that our location change will in no way compromise the security of your documents during transfer or processing. In fact, the new office will allow for added security as well as space.

We will soon have new envelopes for our subscription customers with the new address. Until then, we have made arrangements with our postal facility distribution center to have all of your envelopes forwarded to the new location. (In fact, this is already happening.) As you can imagine, there is a pretty meaningful volume of our green scanvelopes through our local postal facility. We know the people there well and they are helping us make this a smooth transition. For our box customers, we have sent new PDF labels to those of you who will be impacted by our transition. We are also maintaining both the new location and the old location for a period of time, ensuring that we will get packages and scanvelopes regardless of where they are sent.

As for our service, customers will receive the same OfficeDrop service they currently enjoy, without having to change anything about how they submit or view their documents. Submission and processing will work the same way, it will just happen in a roomy new office!

We thank you for using OfficeDrop and look forward to serving you from our new Cambridge office.

For your records, our new address is:

OfficeDrop
Suite One
180 Fawcett Street
Cambridge, MA 02138-1112

As always, you can call our customer service number toll free at 888-674-6493 if you have any questions.

Pixily respects your privacy

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

We would like to sincerely apologize to all our customers for an email error that occurred while notifying you about our system’s availability. Due to a human error, one of the notification emails inadvertently included the email addresses of other customers in the cc: field. The error was limited to a small subset of our users. We have investigated the issue, reviewed all our security and privacy policies and have taken measures to ensure this or any other security and privacy lapses do not happen again in the future. My contact information is at the bottom of this post and please reach out to me if you have concerns, questions or comments.

We want to reiterate that we take security and privacy extremely seriously and you can be confident that this will not happen again. Every aspect of our service is designed with security and privacy in mind. Our privacy policies have been reviewed and certified by Truste; McAfee runs tests daily to test the security of our systems; and our systems are hosted on Amazon Data centers to ensure the security and availability of your data and documents.  We welcome you to visit our Privacy and Security page at www.pixily.com/security to learn more about our security and privacy procedures.

What happened?

This morning an email notification was sent to users to inform them about an outage earlier in the day. This email was sent in multiple waves to different sets of OfficeDrop users. In one such email notification, customer emails were in the cc: list, there by revealing their email addresses to other customers.

Why did this happen?

Simply put, this was due to a human error and it should not have happened. We sincerely apologize to our customers for the mistake. We assure you that this is not the same set of processes that we use for notifications as part of our ongoing operations. This was a one-time email correspondence, for which we didn’t use our usual email notification systems (such as those that we use for our newsletters or other notifications), and it was sent to all users regardless of their notification preferences. Hence the scope for human error and will not happen again. We also wish to reiterate that no customer documents were impacted due to this email nor were any of the secure servers where we encrypt and store customer documents were affected.

What has OfficeDrop done to ensure it does not happen again?

The OfficeDrop team has investigated this issue in detail and has put together processes in place to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. Specifically, the following will be done:

  1. An automated system that uses our existing proven notification mechanisms, will be implemented by July 20th. Like other systems in OfficeDrop, access will be restricted to authorized individuals. This system will eliminate human error such as the one that happened today.
  2. We will review our employee training and improve our customer communication practices.
  3. All Email broadcasts and customer communication will be reviewed in our monthly Security and Privacy audit meetings.

Some Parting thoughts:

I would like to thank all the customers who have offered their words of support for us. We take pride in the way we serve our customers. Please rest assured that we will continue to do everything we can to retain the high level of trust that you have placed in us.

As a token of our apology, we are offering one free Scanvelope to all customers who inadvertently had their email addresses exposed by us. We sincerely apologize and hope that we can make it up to you by impressing you with our reinforced security and privacy policies and procedures.

If you have concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to me at prasad {@} pixily {dot} com or at 888-674-6493. I am at extension 703.

Sincerely,

Prasad Thammineni

USPTO reduces paper by scanning paper documents

Friday, August 29th, 2008

The US Patent trademark office (USPTO) has gone digital by implementing a system where all applications that it will receive from now on will be scanned first before they are processed. Furthermore, as of August 27th, 2008, it does not require applicants to submit duplicate copies of all Patent service request forms. Incidentally, even the letter that announced the change was scanned and published on their web site as a PDF.

The USPTO required applicants to submit duplicate copies since two of the business functions, namely, processing of the fees and processing of the applications, where performed in two different parts of the USPTO office. Now with each application being scanned at the time of receipt, the entire USPTO can access these applications from anywhere and anytime.

This is a great first step for an over burdened government organization to make business processes efficient, fast and less expensive. We only hope that this will decrease the overall application processing times.

Mass High Tech: Pixily leading cloud computing adoption

Monday, August 4th, 2008

The PR continues. Mass High Tech, a leading journal covering business news in the New England high technology industry, featured OfficeDrop in their latest issue under the title Cloud computing bursting on the corporate scene.

Christopher Calnan, the Staff Writer at the Mass High Tech,  spent about an hour interviewing us. He had very insightful questions and made us look at our usage of Amazon Web Services in ways we did not in the past. By the way, Amazon Web Services is one of the best examples of Cloud Computing.
