Tips on Going Paperless

As spring approaches, getting organized seems to weigh heavier on folks. Going paperless is an easy way of beginning that process.istockphoto_4581445-file-folders

Yesterday, Rachael Brownell at SuperEco shared five tips with her readers on how-to go paperless:

  1. Think before you print: Do you need to print everything you read or receive online?
  2. Use both sides: Use 100% recycled paper, print on both sides, do the same with scrap paper.
  3. Print green: Use tools like Greenprint and Eco-font to minimize the use of ink.
  4. Share your love virtually: Say what you would say in snail mail in an instant through a social network like Twitter, Facebook, or Flickr.
  5. Scan it: Yes, scan documents or photos to a back up hard drive.

These are very practical consumer tips for going paperless. I’d like to talk more about scanning your documents in an attempt to get organized this spring.

istockphoto_82350-file-cabinetUsing a service like OfficeDrop has its advantages over scanning the documents by yourself into a backup drive. Obviously, you save the time, but you also don’t have to do complicated configuration. You also don’t have to worry about formats and conversions. Floppy disks were all the rage 20 years ago and who knows where USB drives will be a few years from now. But wait, there’s more. Your documents can be securely accessed from anywhere you have access to the internet, something that you can’t do easily if you scan to a USB drive at home.

Stacks of paper, filing cabinets, can all be converted to .pdf files and back-up discs can be made anytime you like. This does more than remove the paper from your space, if you elect to, the paper is securely shredded and recycled.

Spring cleaning: Take the paper out of your space, send it off to OfficeDrop. We’ll scan it, recycle it, give you access to re-organized clutter, say, on your iphone.
