Marketing Officer to Speak at Customer Development Conference

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

On Tuesday, October 5th, Healy Jones – OfficeDrop’s Vice President of Marketing, will be speaking at the “Customer Development: The Second Decade — with Steve Blank’s co-author Bob Dorf.” The event will start at 6 PM and will be hosted at Microsoft’s NERD Center, One Memorial Drive in Cambridge, MA.

The event is free (sponsored by General Catalyst, a local venture capital firm.) To register for the customer development event click here.

More about the conference: At Customer Development: The Second Decade, a FutureM event organized by General Catalyst Partners and FastIgnite, Bob Dorf will provide an exclusive peek “under the covers” at some of the many new rules and advancements that Steve, Bob and the ecosystem of thousands of entrepreneur, marketer and investor practitioners have developed over the past several years. The event will feature a keynote by Bob, guest appearances by entrepreneurs and executives who have successfully applied customer development in their businesses and a discussion led by General Catalyst Executive in Residence and FastIgnite CEO Simeon Simeonov.

The main speaker will be Bob Dorf

The March 1999 Fortune magazine raved about The One to One Fieldbook, which Bob Dorf co-authored, saying, “if your company is launching a customer-focused strategy…it sets the agenda.” Bob has advised more than a score of startups on customer development, including Steve Blank’s startup, Epiphany, as well as Broadvision, and Markettools, among others. Entrepreneurial from the age of 12, he personally founded six substantial startups, including—as he puts it—“two homeruns, two base hits, and two solid tax losses.”  Dorf+Stanton Communications, founded at age 22 in his living room, grew from a staff of two—Bob and a St. Bernard—to more than 150, when Bob sold it in 1989. Dorf lives in Stamford with his wife Fran, a serial published novelist. An avid bicyclist and skier, Bob’s proudest startup by far is daughter Rachel, a psychologist who recently made him a grandpa.

Simeon Simeonov, a well known Boston-are CEO/VC, will be the moderator

A parallel entrepreneur and investor, Sim has co-founded several companies, most recently Better Advertising & Thing Labs, and has played a key role in dozens of v1.0s, financings and exits. Through a partnership between FastIgnite and General Catalyst Partners, Sim helps entrepreneurs with big ideas find Product/Market Fit and happy, paying customers while building a team and raising capital along the way. Previously, Sim was a partner at Polaris Venture Partners and chief architect at Allaire and Macromedia (now Adobe). He blogs at blog.simeonov.com, tweets as @simeons and lives in the Greater Boston area with his wife, son and an adopted dog named Tye.

Other Speakers

David Cancel, serial entrepreneur and founder of Compete, Lookery, Ghostery and Performable.

Andy Moss, founder and CEO of ESMZone.

Andy Greenawalt, founder and CEO of Perimeter eSecurity and Continuity.net.

Healy Jones, founder of Startable and VP Marketing at OfficeDrop.

Rob May, founder and CEO of Backupify.

Happy Birthday to Us!

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Break out the birthday cake because OfficeDrop turns 2 years old today. Though we were founded in 2007, we launched our service on July 19, 2008, meaning we’ve now completed two successful years of document scanning and digital filing services. Don’t worry, you don’t have to sing or anything.

Considering how much we’ve grown in the last two years, it’s like perusing baby pictures when we look at the Boston Globe article that covered our ’08 launch as Pixily. We’ve changed our name since then and have continued to grow in functionality and user base. We even look different now that we’ve made the transition to our new website.

Though some would call our age the terrible two’s, we don’t see anything terrible about it. In fact, we’ve only gotten better, adding new features like context menus, new integrations with FreshBooks, Google, and Evernote, and new products like our ScanDrop scanning software and iPad application.

As we venture into our third year, you can bet this trend will continue and we will work hard to make OfficeDrop better, faster, and easier to use. As for today, however, we’re going to kick back and have some cake. Many thanks to all who have used and supported OfficeDrop over the last two years!

Happy 4th of July from OfficeDrop!

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

It’s the weekend to celebrate US independence and we would like to wish all of you a very fun-filled and patriotic 4th of July!

Time to kick back and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of freedom (mmmm, hot dogs). After you celebrate that fateful day in 1776, you might think about enjoying another kind of freedom in your home or office.

Freedom From Paper!

After the grill has cooled, the fireworks ash has settled, and the flag has been brought in for the night, it’s time to start your own revolution – a revolution against the tyrannic rule of paper. No longer need you cater to its restrictive physical state, or it’s demand for filing cabinets and printer ink cartridges. Fight back with document scanning. Free yourself to share, search, and organize from anywhere, with just a few clicks of your mouse.

Consider OfficeDrop your ally in the fight against paper, and contact us to start your paperless revolution (just don’t call on July 5th – we will be closed).

After the 5th we’ll be ready and waiting to fight. We serve the entire United States, so give us a call when you’re ready to lead the charge.

Monday, May 24th, 2010

So if you need to get organized and have been waiting for an excuse to pull the trigger, wait no longer. You’ve got until May 31st to get to Intuit and start signing up, so get there now and don’t miss an opportunity to win a Kindle, get free apps, and turn your cluttered office into a fully organized productivity center.

Organization Tips From Josh Zerkel & Intuit’s Webinar

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

As mentioned in our previous blog post, professional organizer, Josh Zerkel, recently lead an Intuit-hosted webinar outlining the use of OfficeDrop and two other organization applications featured on Intuit’s app center.

The webinar was very informative, and Josh gave a lot of helpful tips on how to stay organized with concern to paper reduction in your office. In case you missed the webinar, here are some of our favorite facts and tips from the webinar.

Challenges of Paper:

  • Takes a lot of physical space
  • Causes lots of clutter
  • It takes on a life of its own
  • Requires time to process and get into systems
  • Easy to lose
  • Not easily shared
  • Tied to one location
  • Doesn’t support mobile work style

Paperless is a misnomer

Although you can get pretty close, no office will be able to completely do away with paper. A better way to think about it would be to think of creating a less paper office, since paper will inevitably manifest itself in one way or another.

With digital documents, the “office is optional”

Josh brought up a great point in saying that with digital documents stored online, an actual office building is unnecessary. Workers can instead access everything they need to run their business right from a laptop or other mobile device.

Scan paper, but consider your digital documents too

It’s great to have a document management service that scans and uploads paper documents, but Josh reminds us that it is equally important to have a system that easily integrates with documents already stored on your computer. With OfficeDrop, for example, you can easily upload locally and forward via email any digital documents you need so that they can all be managed from the same application.

Gauge Employee Preferences

Before you go off and transition to a paperless office, you should know that everyone who works with you is ready and willing to go digital. Even if a few of your employees are incapable or totally against a digital document system, this can make operations more difficult than before. As with any other decision, be sure the people you work with think it’s a good idea too.

“Start small. Be realistic”

If you’re new to digital document management, don’t think you have to start emptying every filing cabinet you own. To start, set reasonable goals for how you want to go digital and try out online document management to see how it fits into your workflow. For example, try targeting specific paper sources e.g. decide to digitize all expense documents for this month, and then experiment with a free trial with OfficeDrop.

Bulk Scanning Discount: Simplify Spring Cleaning With OfficeDrop

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Spring is just around the corner – a time of rebirth, renewal, rabbits, eggs (?), and of course, spring cleaning. We’re not sure why everyone decided spring was the time for cleaning – maybe to curb the excitement that stems from the culmination of winter – who knows?

If you find your office “celebrates” spring with an annual ritual of sifting through stacks of paper and ordering files in cabinets, we have a better, more permanent, way to handle your spring cleaning.

Bulk Scan your Paper with OfficeDrop (Discounted for Spring Cleaning)

Bulk scanning with OfficeDrop’s document scanning service is an easy way to get all your office documents organized online, and keep them that way. To help you celebrate spring cleaning, we are offering $20 off any bulk scanning order of $200 or more until the end of this month. If you’re going to be organizing your paper anyway, why not prep them for scanning and online storage where they can be filed, labeled and managed from any internet connection? All you have to do to prep your documents for online management is to attach documents of each category or label with a paper clip and label that stack. Then just pack them up in the pre-paid boxes we provide and mail them to our secure facility.

If you want, you can even send everything in no particular order in the box at all and organize it later from our convenient online portal. Once they’re all in the system, you can mail us your paper each month as if flows into your office. That way, come next spring, you’ll be able to enjoy the season knowing your documents are secure and organized with OfficeDrop.

How to get the Spring Cleaning Discount

Give us a ring when you place your order at 888-674-6493 and mention this spring cleaning discount. It’s that easy!

Remember, you must place and ship your order in March 2010 to receive this $20 discount, and your bulk scanning order needs to be over $200.

Pixily Will Announce a New Name Soon

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Thank you to all the customers and friends who helped us come up with a new and improved identity! Next week we intend to change our name – but not our service! OfficeDrop customers can expect the same great service – plus some nifty new logos and cool new features. You will still be able to reach us by phone at 888-674-6493 or by our online chat feature, or by our support email or help features. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. And thanks again to all of you who helped us brainstorm, evaluate, and create our new name. We hope you love it!

Also, if you are curious, we will be posting more on the reasons we are making the name change and our process for coming up with a new name, which involved employee brainstorming, recall tests, customer consultation, a large customer survey (and a healthy dose of feedback from our spouses.)

Pixily Moves to Cambridge

Monday, February 8th, 2010

We are pleased to announce that the OfficeDrop office has moved from our Waltham headquarters to an office in Cambridge. The new space will provide us with a lot more room to grow, as well as more space to store and process your documents. We are also excited to be closer to Boston, and closer to talented folks who can aid us with our growth and development.

The security and privacy of your documents is always foremost in our thoughts, and we assure you that our location change will in no way compromise the security of your documents during transfer or processing. In fact, the new office will allow for added security as well as space.

We will soon have new envelopes for our subscription customers with the new address. Until then, we have made arrangements with our postal facility distribution center to have all of your envelopes forwarded to the new location. (In fact, this is already happening.) As you can imagine, there is a pretty meaningful volume of our green scanvelopes through our local postal facility. We know the people there well and they are helping us make this a smooth transition. For our box customers, we have sent new PDF labels to those of you who will be impacted by our transition. We are also maintaining both the new location and the old location for a period of time, ensuring that we will get packages and scanvelopes regardless of where they are sent.

As for our service, customers will receive the same OfficeDrop service they currently enjoy, without having to change anything about how they submit or view their documents. Submission and processing will work the same way, it will just happen in a roomy new office!

We thank you for using OfficeDrop and look forward to serving you from our new Cambridge office.

For your records, our new address is:

OfficeDrop
Suite One
180 Fawcett Street
Cambridge, MA 02138-1112

As always, you can call our customer service number toll free at 888-674-6493 if you have any questions.
