New ScanDrop Mac Version

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

The newest version of ScanDrop Mac is out in the Mac App Store.

ScanDrop for Mac and the free ScanDrop Lite let any Mac user integrate scanned paper with digital screenshots to create multi-page, searchable PDFs, and with a single click share them via social networks or store them in services like Evernote, Dropbox, OfficeDrop and Google Docs.

Now, you can scan a page, grab a screenshot, store in the cloud – and socially share via Twitter – all from one place! Once the document is created, users have the option of sharing text-searchable PDFs with an unique link that’s sent directly to email, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Delicious, Tumblr, and Amazon Wish List, to name a few. Popular online filing services like Google Docs, Evernote and OfficeDrop’s cloud filing cabinet are also supported, allowing users to drop OfficeDrop PDF files into their accounts and share them with anyone, anywhere.

click.to to OfficeDrop

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

OfficeDrop and click.to are excited to announce the newest OfficeDrop API integration – click.to to OfficeDrop!

With click.to, you’ll be able to CTRL+C (⌘+C on a Mac) any file on your desktop and send it directly into OfficeDrop’s cloud filing system. It’s super easy, really fast and a great new workflow for the power OfficeDrop users.

Get click.to to OfficeDrop for free by clicking the following link:

click.to OfficeDrop Video

Here is how the integration works:

Select any file and press CTRL+C (⌘+C on a Mac). The OfficeDrop logo will pop up; simply select it and the file is stored directly in the cloud. Users don’t have to fumble with multiple open windows, dragging and dropping, or leaving their current screen.

Special for OfficeDrop Users

OfficeDrop is the first click.to partner to have folder integration. This means that a user can choose an OfficeDrop cloud folder to upload into at the time of clicking! We are really happy that click.to made us the first to have this integration, and we know it’s important since our customers are very aggressive folder users.

There is a little set up required at first to get click.to to choose a folder. First you’ll have to type in the name of the folder that you want to upload into. If that folder already exists click.to will put the document directly into it; otherwise click.to will create the folder for you and put the file into it. We know this is a little bit of an effort the first time you try to pick a folder, but we appreciate the development effort that the click.to team put into creating the folder integration specifically for OfficeDrop. They intend to refine the folder selection UI in the future.

Introducing ScanDrop Lite for Mac

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

We are very excited to announce the newest addition to our cloud paper management product family – Mac ScanDrop Lite! This awesome little app lets Mac users scan paper directly into the world’s leading cloud storage services for FREE. It is a starter product for our paid Mac ScanDrop scanner software as well.

ScanDrop Lite will allow you to scan up to 15 pages per month into Dropbox, Evernote, Google Docs, Gmail or your Mac’s local disk. You can also scan unlimited amounts into OfficeDrop’s cloud filing system. Read the press release below.

OfficeDrop Releases Free Mac Scan-to-Cloud App and Updates Paid Mac App

Free ScanDrop Lite Lets Users Scan Paper Documents Directly to the Cloud or Local Disk, Improved Paid App Adds Document-Splitting and Features Unlimited Uploads

Cambridge, MA — (August 31, 2011) — OfficeDrop today announced a free addition to their ScanDrop for Mac app lineup, ScanDrop Lite. The company also introduced an update to the paid ScanDrop for Mac software. ScanDrop is a scanning software application that digitizes and organizes scanned documents directly to the cloud or to a Mac’s local disc.

Here’s what’s new:

ScanDrop Lite is a brand new free app from OfficeDrop, available for download in the Mac App Store. Like the original version of ScanDrop, users can scan documents directly to the cloud with ease. With the lite app, users can:

  • Upload 15 pages per month to a variety of cloud programs including Google Docs, Gmail, Evernote and DropBox
  • Upload unlimited pages to OfficeDrop’s cloud filing cabinet

ScanDrop for Mac ($9.99) has significant updates, including:

  • Unlimited uploads to either OfficeDrop or any of its cloud services integrations (Google Docs, Gmail, Evernote or DropBox)
  • Document splitting, which enables users to upload multiple pages at once, then split them into separate documents

For example, an HR administrator could upload a new hire’s paperwork using ScanDrop, then easily separate it into multi-page documents, differentiating the employee’s healthcare application from the W-4 form. These documents could then be tagged and sorted into appropriate folders. Pages also become text-searchable once scanned, so they can be easily found when needed.

Both ScanDrop Lite and ScanDrop for Mac now have:

  • Syncing of cloud tags, folders, collections and notebooks when scanning to Gmail and scanning to Evernote. Users can look up cloud metadata (like tags) that they have already created, and sort documents as they are scanned
  • Powerful tools to create better PDFs, including the ability to preview, rotate, crop, delete and drag-and-drop to reorder pages prior to upload
  • Automatic attachment of scanned documents to Gmail and other popular desktop email programs
  • OCR (optical character recognition) for Google Docs users, Premium Evernote users and users of OfficeDrop’s digital filing system

“We are excited to bring a free version of our ScanDrop app to market, reaching new users and allowing them to scan and store unlimited documents in OfficeDrop’s digital filing system,” said OfficeDrop CEO Prasad Thammineni. “Additionally, the ability to separate pages from bulk scans into individual documents is a valuable tool that our users have requested, and we are pleased to provide that functionality in our paid ScanDrop app. We believe these developments will help us continue our mission to give paper new life in the cloud.”

ScanDrop works with the majority of scanners currently on the market. The software can be installed and connected in minutes. Download ScanDrop Lite or ScanDrop for Mac at the Mac App Store. A limited lite version of ScanDrop for Windows is also available for free download on the OfficeDrop website.

The author, Chris White, says that “One of the tools I’ve found invaluable for speeding up the scan and filing process is ScanDrop, as it allows me to scan a document and do basic image editing. I can also send a PDF to Evernote with a name, tags, and the appropriate Notebook setup without having to juggle files between multiple applications.” He also notes that ScanDrop can scan documents to Google Docs, Dropbox and your Mac’s local drive.

Cloud Dashboard

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Note that this is the older OfficeDrop user interface; you can learn about our major update’s UI here. Also, visit our file sharing page to see more about how OfficeDrop makes it easy to share files from your computer, phone or the web.

Older OfficeDrop Cloud Dashboard

OfficeDrop’s new dashboard, that gives our users a view into their cloud service, has so far been very well received! Here are a few of the highlights on how the OfficeDrop cloud dashboard works:

Accessing your cloud dashboard is easy. When you first log in you’ll see the dashboard automatically. You can also get to the dashboard at any time by clicking on the “dashboard” tab at the top of your account.

Cloud dashboard overview. The dashboard provides several great views into the data that you have managed in your OfficeDrop account.

cloud-dashboardOn the left, you will see your recent document processing activity, including the documents you have mailed to OfficeDrop to have scanned and the digital files that you have uploaded into the account.

In the center, you will have quick access to your documents, including your favorites. But remember, if you push the “documents” file tab at the top of the page you will go back to the traditional OfficeDrop login.

On the right, you can see the “addons” that you have linked with your account. Here is where you can see what documents you have pushed to Google Docs, Evernote, etc.

We hope that you like the new layout and dashboard! Please let us know your comments.

ScanDrop on ampercent

Monday, October 4th, 2010

ampercentampercent, a blog dedicated to cool technology tips and tricks, recently featured our ScanDrop Scan-to-the-Cloud Scanning Software as a way to save content into Google Docs.

ampercent says that it was easy for him to upload documents that had already been scanned into Google Docs. However, “It was alright until I had to scan and save loads of them manually. I was hoping for something that could scan my paper documents and save them directly in my Google Docs account.”

Thankfully, the author found ScanDrop! Check out the post here.

OfficeDrop and Google Docs

Friday, September 10th, 2010

The entire team at OfficeDrop uses Google Docs everyday. We find the spreadsheets and documents are ideal for sharing important operational content across the firm. That is partially why we have put so much effort into our integrations with Google Docs. Here are a few of the great things you can do with OfficeDrop and Google Docs.

Scan to Google Docs

OfficeDrop’s ScanDrop software is the easiest way to scan directly into your Google Docs account. We connect TWAIN enabled scanners directly to your Google account for PC users. You don’t even have to open a browser to get your files online!

Connect OfficeDrop Digital Filing System to Google Docs

You can easily use OfficeDrop’s mail-in scanning service and online digital filing system to manage paper files in Google Docs. The best part about using OfficeDrop’s system with Google Docs is we make everything text searchable, so you can use Google Doc’s search bar and find information in your PDFs.

You can either automatically push contents in OfficeDrop to Google, or manually push individual files or folders of files.

You can learn more about OfficeDrop’s integrations on our Digital Office page.

Scanning Directly to Google Docs

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Our link to Google Docs feature has been getting a lot of hype lately so we just wanted to remind you the two easy ways OfficeDrop lets you scan directly to Google Docs. Whether you want us to do it, or you want to do it yourself, OfficeDrop gets your paper out of those filing cabinets and into Google Docs.

Scan Directly to Google Docs (2 Ways)

1. Have Us Scan It

Hopefully you’ve heard that OfficeDrop provides mail-based scanning either in bulk, or with monthly scanvelope submission. When you have us scan, you have the option of automatic upload to our online digital filing system. Now that you can link your OfficeDrop account to Google Docs, you can configure your OfficeDrop account to automatically send every page we scan to your Google Docs account. Keep in mind that because you scanned with OfficeDrop, every document is converted to text-searchable PDF, ready to search on Google Docs.

2. Self Scan with ScanDrop

With our increasingly popular ScanDrop scanning software (free for download), you can turn your own personal scanner into a direct portal to Google Docs (*see below for compatible scanners). Configuring your scanner with ScanDrop allows you to view, edit, delete, reorder, and upload any scans right to Google Docs – all from the same intuitive application. You can even choose which Google Docs folder to upload to, and name your scans. However, keep in mind that documents sent directly to Google Docs through ScanDrop are not made text-searchable. See ScanDrop’s recent article on Life Hacker.

If you use Google Docs, then don’t miss out on these two simple and affordable ways to get all of your paper documents directly to Google Docs. Send to us or scan yourself and start putting your paper to work in Google Docs.

3 Reasons Google Docs is Great for Small Businesses

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Web-Based softwares and applications have been reshaping the way startup companies do business. They lower costs, improve productivity, and allow employees to work from any internet connection. For these reasons, it’s no wonder so many startups utilize Google applications in their day-to-day operations. Not only are most of them free, but Google apps like Gmail and Google Docs make sharing and organizing information a nearly effortless task.

That’s why we developed the ScanDrop scanning software and our link to Google Docs feature, allowing users to finally bring the information on their paper documents to the convenience of Google Docs.

If you’re not already using Google Docs for your business, it is worth a look. Here are 3 reasons Google Docs is a great choice for editing documents online.

1.       Collaboration Made Simple:

Easily the greatest advantage of Google Docs is the allowance of multiple employees to access and edit the same documents from any internet connection. Google Docs thus brings every concerned party to the same platform, and edit history keeps everyone on the same page.  Spreadsheets are particularly helpful, allowing a grid of dates and schedules that can be updated instantly. In addition, individual documents can be shared via email, and viewing and editing access can be limited, boosting accessibility while preserving your documents’ security.

2.       Save Space and Organize

One problem with digital documents is that they tend to reproduce at an alarming rate – especially when being edited by multiple parties. If many different edits are involved, you can easily find your desktop and email being crowded by multiple versions of the same document. With Google Docs, the same document can be edited in one space by multiple people, so you never need more than one file taking up room. If necessary, you can save multiple revisions and keep them on Google Docs, not your desktop.

3.       Cost Effectiveness

Obvious but important, Google Docs is a free application. You don’t get much more cost effective than that, especially with an application as functional as Google Documents. By operating in Google Docs, you will find yourself saving money by increasing productivity, and lowering the volume of paper that continuously has to be printed and marked up for editing.

Google Docs is a great collaborative tool, and one we use ourselves as an organized place for co-workers to convene on any digital documents. With our ScanDrop scanning software and link to Google Docs featue, the same can be done with scanned paper documents as well. If you don’t already use Google Docs, we highly recommend it to any business that deals with information online.
