Customer Review of ScanDrop

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

We love it when a customer writes something nice about us – and just yesterday Edward Kiledjian did just that!

Check out his review of ScanDrop here.

Review of ScanDrop Scan to Cloud Software

Edward says:

“I am a big fan of Evernote and use it to store all of my reference material (as explained in the GTD methodology). One of the key requirements to my online storage strategy is converting paper into PDF and getting it into Evernote as simply and quickly as possible.

A while back I found a free software called ScanDrop which did exactly that. I use it to scan paper directly from my Brother multifunction device and then upload it straight into my Evernote [For Google Docs users, it supports that service too] inbox ready for processing. It supports a whole range of scanners.”

Edward also took some screenshots.

We are glad that he appreciates ScanDrop, and wish happy scanning to all of our ScanDrop Scan to Evernote users!

Scan to Gmail and Apple Mail with OfficeDrop’s ScanDrop for Mac

Newest version of ScanDrop for Mac lets users quickly scan and email paper documents, look up addresses, and use Gmail for document storage

It’s time to scan and share if you’re on a Mac! Get your paper attached to emails and out to your contacts ASAP with our newest software. OfficeDrop’s ScanDrop for Mac scanner software now lets users scan and send documents using their Gmail and Apple Mail accounts.

ScanDrop Scanner Software for Mac automatically pulls up the user’s Gmail address book or opens Mac desktop email programs with the scanned PDF already attached, making scanning and sharing simple, fast and efficient.

Use Gmail for Document Storage

With over 7593.522222 megabytes [and counting] of free storage according to Google, Gmail is becoming a viable cloud storage alternative. Why not store your scans in Gmail and take advantage of all this storage space?

OfficeDrop simplifies this process by linking the scanner directly to Gmail and giving users access to all of its organizational features. When a user emails a scan to their own Gmail account, they can now add Gmail labels and add an email message and subject line within the ScanDrop app. This allows for better and faster sorting and searching for documents within Gmail.

ScanDrop works with the majority of Mac-compatible scanner models sold within the last year. Visit the OfficeDrop website for a full list of compatible scanners. The software can be installed and connected in minutes. Download ScanDrop for Mac at the Mac App store. OfficeDrop expects to add this functionality to the popular ScanDrop for Windows scanning software later this year.

iCloud and OfficeDrop

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

This is going to be big!

The team here at OfficeDrop was glued to the live updates on Apple’s new iOS and iCloud… and we got pretty excited.

While some pundits have been claiming that iCloud will kill existing document sync, access, collaboration and sharing startups, we think otherwise. OfficeDrop CEO, Prasad Thammineni, was quoted in Macworld and conveyed our excitement about the new announcement. From the Macworld article:

Prasad Thammineni, OfficeDrop’s CEO, said he saw opportunity. Apple’s new service, he said, isn’t necessarily oriented toward business-sized customers—but it could educate those customers about the advantages of cloud storage and expand his company’s market.

“It’s going to educate consumers to say ‘I want my data to go where I go.’ That will prompt customers and small businesses to say they want to do their data the same way,” Thammineni said. He added: “So for us, we see this as a big positive thing.”

We have reason to be so optimistic about Apple’s iCloud. When Microsoft began their “To the Cloud” campaign in November of 2010, we saw our keyword “cloud” related search traffic double from the previous month. And today, this traffic is up 5x what it was before Microsoft began educating the world about the cloud. (Note that while all search traffic for OfficeDrop has grown in that timeframe, it hasn’t grown anything like cloud related traffic. And there was a very distinct, positive change in the cloud related search traffic growth pre and post Microsoft campaign.)

Apple’s iCloud efforts will help propel cloud usage to the masses (or at least beyond the early adopters.) And since Apple is so laser focused on the consumer, OfficeDrop’s target customer base of small business owners will be left searching for a solution that meets their special needs. According to research that we’ve seen, last year only 11% of small businesses were using cloud based SaaS solutions – up from 8% the year before, but still a tiny percentage. And once you go cloud you are 4x more likely to try another cloud solution. If Apple can pull this off they will be the first baby-step into cloud services that our potential customers need!

Finally, our ScanDrop scanning software app thrives on scanning paper into people’s cloud based accounts, and is really designed for customers who use multiple cloud services. So one more strong cloud offering is quite good for ScanDrop, and will help our Mac ScanDrop scanner software revenue grow.

Changing the Default Cloud for ScanDrop Scanner Software

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

With ScanDrop scanning software, you can you can set a default cloud service to scan to. This means that when you scan you don’t need to pick your preferred cloud service provider each time.

Once you pick a default cloud storage provider you may feel trapped! What if you want to scan to a different cloud? Just because you’ve got a million things to scan to Evernote this week doesn’t mean you won’t want to scan to Google Docs the next.

So… we’ve made it so that you can change your default cloud service provider at any time.

To change your default cloud service in ScanDrop, follow the steps below.

1. Open ScanDrop. If you have set a default cloud service provider, a dialogue will pop up with that service’s log-in. Log into this service with your username and password.

2. Once you have logged in, you will see a “Switch cloud service” icon in the upper right hand corner of the ScanDrop menu. Select “Switch cloud service”

By offering connectivity to the cloud, Visioneer is addressing customer demands for effortless usability.”

“No other scanner company offers as many cloud scanning options for such a broad range of scanners models. Every Visioneer and Xerox scanner supporting OneTouch 4.6 or greater is immediately enabled,” said John Capurso, vice president of marketing at Visioneer. “Visioneer CONNECT represents the most comprehensive set of cloud scanning solutions available to extend the usual terrestrial destinations to the leading cloud on-line services. As Visioneer releases more cloud links, you’ll find them at connect.visioneer.com.”

Visioneer CONNECT is the latest link development for Visioneer OneTouch. Your cloud credentials (username and password) can be preset through Visioneer OneTouch so every scan job is not interrupted with log-in details. By scanning images directly to the cloud, users can easily collaborate and share files while working in multiple locations.

Visioneer OneTouch is an award winning utility that simplifies scanning to one button. Everyone wants ease of use and convenience, however sometimes in order to obtain it, you have to sacrifice quality or functionality. Not true when it comes to the Visioneer OneTouch technology. Visioneer OneTouch provides the most elegant ease-of-use scanning experience without “dumbing down” the device.

Scanning Tips – Document Prep

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

new-scannerAt OfficeDrop, we know a lot about efficiently processing and scanning documents. But digitization can be a bit of a hassle, and a lot of people tend to blame their scanners when things go wrong.

But it’s not usually the hardware that is at fault! One of the major causes of scanner malfunctions is poor document preparation. Things like staples, mis-feads, and torn paper can really slow down your scanning process.

Chris Riley has a great list of document prep tips over on the AIIM blog. He calls it “Scanner Rage,” but we call it a great synopsis of how to make your scanning more efficient and higher quality.

Check out his tips for more efficient scanning!
