Splitting a Document with ScanDrop Mac

The newest version of ScanDrop Mac lets you split a scan into multiple documents prior to upload. (Note this feature is not available in ScanDrop Mac Lite; you have to upgrade to use it.)

This means you can scan a big stack of paper and then split it into many documents prior to upload – take advantage of the sheet feeder in your Mac’s scanner!

To split a multi-page document

Select the multi-page document in the left-hand document column. In the preview window, you will see all the pages that comprise the document.
In the preview window, select the single page where you wish to insert the split.
Click on the Split & Join button.
Select from the following options:

Split document from here will make the page you selected the first page of your second document
Split document until here will make the page you selected the last page of the first document.

The example below illustrates how the document will be split if you select Split document until here:

Sharing a Scan or Screenshot on Twitter or Facebook with ScanDrop Mac

ScanDrop Mac now lets you socially share your scans and screenshots via your favorite social networks, like Twitter and Facebook. You can upload a file to OfficeDrop, Evernote or Google Docs & simultaneously share it on a social network!

Here is how you can share a file on Twitter or Faceboook when using ScanDrop Mac

In the left-hand column, select the document you wish to upload and share.
Click the Upload button. You will see an upload progress bar.
A success dialog box will appear when your upload has completed. In this box, you can click the Sharebutton.
Select your share method. You can share your document via email, copy its public URL to your clipboard, or share it on various popular social networks.

ScanDrop in TechCrunch

OfficeDrop and ScanDrop Mac were written up in TechCrunch yesterday by TechCrunch reporter Rip Empson. TechCrunch covered the new ScanDrop Mac’s ability to scan, screenshot, save to the cloud and share via social networks.

As Rip explains it, ” announcing updates to its ScanDrop Mac and ScanDrop Lite apps (ScanDrop Lite is free) that let any Mac user integrate scanned paper with digital screenshots to create multi-age, searchable PDFs. But what’s really cool about this is that, with a single click, users can now share these scanned docs via social networks or store them in Evernote, Dropbox, OfficeDrop, and Google Docs.”

He also gives an example of possible workflow that users can take advantage of using the ScanDrop Mac app: “ within ScanDrop, users can merge scans, screenshots, and image files into a single, multi-page PDF to then share as they choose. If a user scans a receipt, he or she can then grab a screenshot of a corresponding spreadsheet of receipts and share that as a single PDF document through Facebook or Twitter, for example.”

New ScanDrop Mac Version

The newest version of ScanDrop Mac is out in the Mac App Store.

ScanDrop for Mac and the free ScanDrop Lite let any Mac user integrate scanned paper with digital screenshots to create multi-page, searchable PDFs, and with a single click share them via social networks or store them in services like Evernote, Dropbox, OfficeDrop and Google Docs.

Now, you can scan a page, grab a screenshot, store in the cloud – and socially share via Twitter – all from one place! Once the document is created, users have the option of sharing text-searchable PDFs with an unique link that’s sent directly to email, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Delicious, Tumblr, and Amazon Wish List, to name a few. Scanning from your iPhone is very easy with the OfficeDrop iPhone PDF scanner app!

Happy New Years – OfficeDrop’s ScanDrop an App to Kickstart 2012

Tuaw, the “unofficial Apple blog,” has included OfficeDrop’s ScanDrop Mac scanner software as one of their “Apps to Kickstart your New Year’s Resolutions.”

The article says:

If you already have a scanner or multi-function printer but you’d like to move to cloud storage of your scans, give the $19.99 ScanDrop for the Mac a try. ScanDrop works with Evernote, Google Docs or OfficeDrop’s cloud service, but scanned files can also be saved on Dropbox or whatever other cloud service you utilize.

You can check out our review from March into a fuller look at the service. If you want to give it a try without dropping $20, the company offers the free ScanDrop Lite allowing scanning of up to 15 pages.

Updated ScanDrop Windows

There is an updated version of ScanDrop Windows scanning software available for update/download. If you already are using ScanDrop Windows to scan to the cloud then you will be prompted to upgrade the next time you open the app. This update fixes some bugs around scanning to Google Docs; we recommend you update the application the next time you open the file. (On a somewhat related note there have been some recent updates to our ScanDrop Mac scanner software as well that you can get through the Mac App store.

Updated OfficeDrop iPad App

The moment we’ve been waiting for has arrived! OfficeDrop’s iPad app is now updated and available in itunes!

With Version 2.0 you now can use your iPad’s camera as a scanner.

Digitize receipts, invoices, contracts – any paper you collect for your business when your iPad is handy! You can create multipage PDFs, either by using the app for several scans in a row, or by selecting multiple items from your iPad’s camera roll. Of course, once uploaded, any and all items become text searchable PDFs in the OfficeDrop system.

Cambridge, MA — (August 31, 2011) — OfficeDrop today announced a free addition to their ScanDrop for Mac app lineup, ScanDrop Lite. The company also introduced an update to the paid ScanDrop for Mac software. ScanDrop is a scanning software application that digitizes and organizes scanned documents directly to the cloud or to a Mac’s local disc.

Here’s what’s new:

ScanDrop Lite is a brand new free app from OfficeDrop, available for download in the Mac App Store. Like the original version of ScanDrop, users can scan documents directly to the cloud with ease. With the lite app, users can:

Upload 15 pages per month to a variety of cloud programs including Google Docs, Gmail, Evernote and DropBox
Upload unlimited pages to OfficeDrop’s cloud filing cabinet

ScanDrop for Mac ($9.99) has significant updates, including:

Unlimited uploads to either OfficeDrop or any of its cloud services integrations (Google Docs, Gmail, Evernote or DropBox)
Document splitting, which enables users to upload multiple pages at once, then split them into separate documents

For example, an HR administrator could upload a new hire’s paperwork using ScanDrop, then easily separate it into multi-page documents, differentiating the employee’s healthcare application from the W-4 form. These documents could then be tagged and sorted into appropriate folders. Pages also become text-searchable once scanned, so they can be easily found when needed.

Both ScanDrop Lite and ScanDrop for Mac now have:

Syncing of cloud tags, folders, collections and notebooks when scanning to G m ail and scanning to Evernote. Users can look up cloud metadata (like tags) that they have already created, and sort documents as they are scanned
Powerful tools to create better PDFs, including the ability to preview, rotate, crop, delete and drag-and-drop to reorder pages prior to upload
Automatic attachment of scanned documents to Gmail and other popular desktop email programs
OCR (optical character recognition) for Google Docs users, Premium Evernote users and users of OfficeDrop’s digital filing system
